Executive summary
On January 1, 2004, a new federal law went into effect that regulates
"Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act
of 2003") is aimed chiefly at the current glut of spam that's been
choking Internet e-mail. But CAN-SPAM also establishes guidelines that
impact virtually all business e-mail—including e-mail sent by tech support
organizations. This report is intended to clarify how the new law will
affect tech support and service customers communications.
