2009 Technical Support Salary Survey
Publication date: 2/09
|
Executive summary
For the past fourteen years, the Association of Support
Professionals has conducted an annual survey of tech support salaries
among technology companies that is widely noted for its accuracy and
consistency. The 2009 survey, which reflects data from 125 support
organizations with more than 20,000 support employees, shows modest
pay gains gains for senior support technicians and managers, but no
growth in pay for less-experienced employees.
The report points to a growing "experience gap" in support salaries
that suggests companies are willing to pay a substantial premium
for employees with advanced technical skills, domain knowledge, and
management abilities--but are less willing to invest in entry-level
staff salaries. The report suggests that the growing contribution
of fee-based support revenues is the main driver of this trend.
The report shows pay levels for seven major job categories, including
senior support executives, department managers, analyst/project
managers, senior support technicians, field support technicians,
support technicians, and customer service reps.
The report provides comparative compensation data based on the
following variables:
- Skill level
- Company revenues
- Support organization size
- Product price
